Were you among the 2,000 attendees that witnessed funeral services of Bishop Walter Hawkins?

Minister/Singer/Composer/ Bishop Walter Hawkins will forever be remembered as a man who loved everybody and believed that God accepts us all — that regardless of adversity, you have to love. The memorial celebration for the legendary Walter Hawkins was held at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, CA, yesterday Wednesday morning.
"We are not here today because Walter died, we are here today because he lived," said the Rev. Carlton Pearson to a crowd of more than 2,000 gathered to bid a last farewell to the Grammy Award-winning gospel singer and minister. "We don't really die, we transcend. Walter's footprints are all over us."
Hawkins, who recorded his first hit — "Oh Happy Day" — when he was just 20 years old, died July 11 of pancreatic cancer at his home in Ripon, CA. He was 61. He was an Oakland native and founded the Love Center Church here in 1973. Son, Walter "Jamie" Hawkins stood before the adoring crowd, raised his arms and said "if only (my) father could see this," adding that his father "taught love and forgiveness on another level."
The positive energy was flowing within the walls of the Paramount Theatre during the service. The crowd sang and applauded along to songs by the Celebration Mass Choir that included "The Lord is High Above the Heavens" and "Total Praise." The choir of more than 50 singers, dressed in cream attire, was led by Rusty Watson, Bishop Hawkins' longtime music director. Donnie McClurklin, also a Grammy-winning gospel singer and pastor, gave the crowd a rousing rendition of his song "Stand." The Rev. Jesse Jackson also spoke.
Hawkins' brown casket sat on the left end of the stage and was covered with a huge flower arrangement.
During the acknowledgments, letters sent to the Hawkins' family from President Barack Obama and Mayor Ron Dellums were read.

"Dear friends: Michelle and I were saddened by the loss of Bishop Walter Hawkins. Bishop Hawkins touched countless lives and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him," the president wrote.

Mayor Dellums declared July 21 Walter Hawkins Day in Oakland.
Last week, more than 2,000 people lined the streets around the Paramount Theatre to get free tickets to the musical tribute and funeral.
Hawkins is survived by two children, two grandchildren and two brothers and three sisters and a host of other family and friends. For those who were not able to be one of the 2,000 to attend the funeral services you were able to view the full service live on the KTVU website. Live streaming aired yesterday at 11am.
